GRE Chemistry Subject Test – Format

  • If you wish to enter a good institute for Chemistry you have to have a score of 700 in the quantitative subject GRE chemistry examination.
  • The paper-based GRE chemistry subject test consists of 136 multiple-choice questions that you have to answer in 170 minutes.
  • While questions pertaining to the field of Analytical Chemistry cover almost 15% of the paper, 25% of the questions are on Inorganic Chemistry. Organic Chemistry comprises 30% of the total number of questions in the paper and Physical Chemistry questions are also in the range of 30%.
  • However, it has to be remembered that topics often overlap, and the percentage division given above for the differentiation of the topics, should not be considered definitive. While taking the examination, you will find that the questions are not very mathematically complicated and therefore, you don’t need calculators or logarithmic tables. In case any question demands a logarithmic value, it will be provided in the question paper itself.
