GRE Biology Subject Test – GRE Scoring Process
The number of questions that are answered correctly is adjudged through the difficulty level of the questions that are present in the question form while calculating reported scores in traditional paper-based tests. This ensures that the same number of questions answered on different test forms will have different scores.
However, in the case of paper-based tests, there is relatively less difference in difficulty among the different test forms. This is done through a process called score equating.
- The score of the biology GRE subject test is calculated in two essential stages. In the initial stage, the raw scores will be calculated after which the scaled scores are computed. After this, one fourth of the total number of incorrect questions is calculated. In the GRE biology subject test, this score will be subtracted from the score of the correct answers. This constitutes the raw score.
- The scaled scores can be found within the limits of 200-900. Generally a student will score 490-790 in these papers. The sub-scores
of the three subject areas are also given correspondingly. The scores in these areas will range between 20 and 99.
- All the raw scores will then be converted into scaled scores. The scaled scores will be found to exist within the limits of 200-990.
- There are a variety of factors which are responsible for converting the raw scores into scaled scores. For example, the number of test questions which are included in the calculation of the raw score and the difficulty which is found in the test edition are some of the factors which are taken into account during the calculation of the raw score.
